First used in a friendly with Thailand on 16/07/99 and a whole series of other friendlies in the lead up to New Zealand’s appearance at the 1999 Confederations Cup where it was used against Germany (with black shorts) and Brazil. It made further appearances at the Four Nations tournament in Guangzhou, the 2000 Oceania Nations Cup and finally in the Merdeka tournament in August 2000.

Not the first time New Zealand have worn blue away shirt, they had done so against Australia in 2004 and later against Fiji. This shirt made its debut in a 5-1 friendly defeat to Spanish club side Sevilla on 15/08/06. It made a further appearances in a friendly draw with Wales (26/05/07) and a World Cup Qualifier in Fiji (17/10/07).
