American Samoa

American Samoa – Home – 2011

I could take this opportunity to belittle American Samoa, and remind you all how Australia absolutely slaughtered them back in 2002. But I’m not going to, instead I’m going to tell you about their attempt at qualifying for the 2014 World CUp in Brazil. IN a change of format to the previous qualification campaigns, Samoa hosted a pre-qualification tournament between themselves, American Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. IN the opening match American Samoa ended a run of 30 consecutive defeats to beat Tonga 2-1, their first ever win. They followed this up with a 1-1 draw with the Cook Islands, and were finally eliminated after conceding an 89th minute goal to hosts Samoa. As a result American Samoa climbed to 173rd in the FIFA World Rankings, a record high.DSCF2118 DSCF2119 DSCF2120

Other National Shirt Collections

Eric’s Collection

ericblog
A fantastic national shirt collection from across the pond. Eric has shunned Canada’s national sports of Ice Hockey, Curling and Seal Clubbing in order to accumulate one of the largest collections of national team shirts out there. Eric’s ability to track done shirts from the many Caribbeans islands has contributed significantly to my personal collection, and to the stock of the Football Shirt World online shop.

Sascha’s Collection

saschablog
Sascha’s collection of national shirts is one of the most unique out there, with many players shirts and non-FIFA nations among the collection. His patience, determination, and effective use of Google Translate has rewarded him with shirts from Madagascar, Yemen and Djibouti. Sascha’s own interest in non-FIFA football has lead to be elected general secretary for the newly formed Confederation of Independent Nations Football Association.

Gregorio’s Collection

gregorioblog
Belgian collector Gregorio has another fantastic collection, with a particular emphasis on Italy. Gregorio has all the shirts from Europe and South America, with only Macau and Syria required to complete the Asian section.

Joe’s Collection

joeblog
Joe’s collection from deepest darkest Scotland is another that has been around for a number of years Joe only has 24 shirts to go to complete the set. His legendary blog posts are both informative and highly amusing, I thoroughly recommend reading them all.

Cyril’s Collection

cyrilblog
I have only recently encountered Cyril’s impressive national shirt collection. Not satisfied with the nigh-on impossible challenge of collecting national shirts from the 209 FIFA nations, he is only collecting match worn shirts, thus making ‘easy to get’ countries like England, Spain and Brazil extremely difficult to find. Fair play.

Simone’s Collection

Simone is a collector from Italy. The majority of shirts in his collection come directly from players making his collection unique. I thoroughy recommend a look through.
